Five Favorite Things – March 2020 (Super Late Edition!)

Essential Workers – Anybody who is going out to fulfill much needed job roles during this time get ALL of my love. Doctors, nurses, custodians, childcare workers, grocery clerks, gas station attendants and everyone in-between, I love you. Toilet Paper – After enduring several weeks of wondering if toilet paper would be in stock when I needed it again, I have grown to appreciate this commodity much, much more. God bless the almighty TP. Baking Supplies – Having a stockpile of flour, sugar, baking soda and the like has been a gift for the fiancĂ© and I, especially when it

Self Portrait #5: Quarantine and the Insidious Creep of Depression

When the “Stay Home, Stay Healthy” mandate hit Washington, I was bummed. Not least of which was because that meant not being able to see the kiddos at my job. But there was a part of me that really believed I was *made* for quarantine. I’m a consummate introvert. People exhaust me. Working in my pajamas is something that appeals to me. Intersperse this with occasional episodes of I Love Lucy and Law and Order:SVU and you’ve got my personal version of paradise. It did start well enough. I’d read other’s quarantine experiences and their death spiral through the kitchen

March Is a Disaster.

Remember when everyone was complaining that January 2020 had 472 days in it? You know what’s even longer. March 2020. This month has been a wreck for me (and everyone). Yes, quarantine and fights over toilet paper have added to my stress. The reality is though, that March stunk from the get-go for me. Let me give you a list: A student accidentally slammed the back of their head into my face. I went home with a mild concussion and a desire to sleep forever. I didn’t. A week after that, a child bit me. Bit me hard enough to

Week in Review #19

How are you guys doing? Has quarantine caused you to go a little stir crazy? Have you binged watch so much Netflix that you can’t handle it anymore? Are you craving a weekend out because you wonder when the next time you’ll be able to eat at a restaurant without worrying about social distancing will be? Me too. But, I did other things this week too! I can’t forget about beauty during a crisis! It’s been the perfect opportunity to learn more about cyclomethicone! I wrote a letter to Portland, Oregon–My last outing before COVID19 shut down the world. One

Dos and Don’ts During a Pandemic

I think we can all agree that there has been no shortage of “crazy” happening lately. Don’t get me wrong, I understand that national emergencies have been declared in several countries and people want to be able to provide for their families–but there is absolutely no reason to buy twenty giant packages of toilet paper or thirty gallons of milk all at once. All of which I have seen with my very own eyes. Let the girl who had the stupidity to travel last week explain the Do’s and Don’ts of what to do during a pandemic (What? I knew

Books: The Great Gatsby

This book is a tragedy. No, not because someone dies. It’s a tragedy because Gatsby lives a lie and loves a vapid gold digger. That, my friends, is how you waste a life. The story is told from Nick Carraway’s point of view–and what a view it is! F. Scott Fitzgerald’s power over description and the English language is a joy to read. Partially because he brings the roaring twenties to life and partially because he describes the characters just as they are. Whether they are brash, silly, insolent, or ignorant, he portrays them as just that and doesn’t faff

Week in Review #18

This week has been anxiety ridden and stressful all because of the Coronavirus. Coronavirus, I hate you, I hate you, I hate you. People are dying, events are getting cancelled and there is a severe lack of toilet paper and hand sanitizer. Plus, the stock market is only plunging into an abyss. But whatevs, it’s the return of my week in reviews, so let’s check out what happened: I’ve been fan girling over Cargo’s Blush “Catalina” since it makes me look all healthy and natural. I talk about seeing the National Museum of Natural History and looking at giant gemstones!

Currently Listening to: 25 by Adele

This album is a breakup guide to all the teenagers out there. I say this because from the sound of it, Adele has been dumped. A LOT. As a side effect, she’s learned to craft some ridiculously classy songs in response to breakups. Really, you could do far worse than to emulate Adele when your heart has been trampled on. And there are so many different types of breakup on the album. There is the regretful, I’m-so-sorry song of “Hello” that everyone and their pet cat has heard on the radio. It’s hauntingly beautiful. Although it’s clearly about her inability

Five Favorite Things – February 2020

My Kitten Callie – I adore her. She has conversations with me and demands to know where I am if she can’t find me. She’s obsessed with giving me cuddles and likes sleeping on top of my head. She loves her sister and makes everyone happy with her instant purring! My Kitten Evie – Evie just wants to make sure every one is happy. Furthermore, she likes to sleep in my bed under the covers with head poking out and everything. Do you know how insanely adorable this is?! She greets me with a giant “MEOW!” every time I come

ALL the Kitten Pictures

I recently announced my adoption of two beautiful kittens, Callie (short for Calvin Klein) and Evie (short for Yves Saint Laurent). Check them out in all their wonderful kitty-ness! This was the VERY first picture we saw of them. They are the two in the back. It was this that made my fiancĂ© and I fall in love. Little Miss Callie, in the flesh (fur?). This was her at about 10 weeks old. Can’t you just see the sass in her? She will often meow for her sister and for us. She has to know everyone is okay. She’s an
