Paula’s Choice Lip & Body Treatment Balm

This product absolutely fascinated me merely because of the extreme hypocrisy of Paula’s Choice selling something (anything!) in a jar. It seems to be completely against their ethos, but for every rule, there must be an exception.

Paula’s Choice Lip & Body Treatment Balm is a hard wax. If you expect to be able to scoop this, you’re dead wrong. The best you can do is warm it up and let it soften a bit. Or you can do the lazy version which is glide your finger (or brush I suppose) over the top to get a minimal amount. It usually takes me several dips to get a decent coating on my lips.

Now, back to the jar packaging. Apparently, Paula’s Choice decided to go for jar packaging because it was too soft for a lip tube. I assure you that that’s a big pile of steaming bullcrap. Judging by other reviews, I’m not the only one to say so. Furthermore, you’d think they’d encourage cleanliness by offering a scoop the way Tatcha does with their products. I mean, Paula absolutely demonizes companies that use unhygienic packaging (like JARS) so the least she could do is encourage clean use of her product!

That being said… This is great to use as a lip primer before applying lipstick. Although I don’t find it very moisturizing, it definitely smooths out this old girl’s lip lines leaving one fine canvas to lipgloss all over. It totally gives me “lipstick lips.” You know, those lips that seem smooth and even and can handle even the matte-ist of formulas without sinking into heretofore unseen lip wrinkles? It’s definitely made my lipstick wardrobe MUCH more wearable.

Priced at $15! I know that sounds crazy expensive, but the fact that it smooths my lips for the rest of the day and seems to have a neverending life (honestly, I’ve used this everyday for three months and I can’t even tell if there is a dent yet), I think it’s worth it.
