Lip balm is one of those things that should be simple. You just want something that keeps your lips from looking like a dried-up husk of a Victorian orphan, right? And yet, the market is rife with deception. Some balms pretend to be moisturizing but are secretly waxy little con artists. Some have the nerve to be sticky. Some smell like a Bath & Body Works exploded in 2007. Some (and this is unforgivable) require you to dig your fingers into a pot like some kind of feral beast. Enter Summer Fridays Lip Butter Balm, the latest inductee into my ever-expanding collection of lip products. I bought one. Then

My Beauty Haul: A Journey into Financial Recklessness and Moisturized Bliss
There comes a moment in every person’s life when they look at their bathroom shelves—crowded with half-used moisturizers, abandoned serums, and a dry shampoo that may or may not predate the pandemic—and think: What if I just bought more stuff? This is the story of that moment. And reader, I did not disappoint myself. I went on a beauty spree so excessive that it’s safe to say I’m now prepared for any scenario involving immaculate hair, flawless skin, and lips so hydrated they could host a pool party. Was it responsible? No. Was it fun? Oh, absolutely. So, grab a cup
The Life and Times of Kristen
It’s been awhile. It’s been hectic. It’s been life-changing. And I’m still recovering from it all. Once upon a time, a pandemic hit the globe. My man and I hid in our house and took walks at appropriately safe distances from other pedestrians. We planned. We enjoyed the small break from having to “head into the office”. We were both still receiving paychecks and felt incredibly blessed. I had chosen this most fortunate time to go back to school, to get my Masters. In the process I had quit my previous job and easily found a new one that aligned
5 Favorite Things – July 2020 (Super Late Edition!)
I know, I know, it’s almost September and I’m only now telling you about my favorite July things. I didn’t want to skip it though because I got the BEST bridal gift from my parents. It was so sweet, it made me sappy and I just DO NOT do sappy. My mother wrote a poem to go with the gift. Think of it as a teaser for what was inside. Something Old Something New Something Borrowed Something Blue Dated 1986, a lucky penny for your shoe A ring of hearts just for you A Rolling Stones pin from you know
What I Wore on My Birthday
I knew I’d be a chump when it came to what I wore posts. Because this is what I wore on my birthday and my birthday was last month. I am so that girl that is always the last to show up to the party, I swear. At least though, you get these random shots taken in an empty Roundtable Pizza restroom, where I momentarily took the mask off and snapped some pics. I decided to rock my Calvin Klein pink Moto jacket. I accessorized it with the edgy-but-cute Alexander McQueen skull scarf and my Kate Spade bag that I
First Responder Childcare and the Fight for Sanitization
I hope everyone reading this is finding themselves in good health. As part of my job duties as an educator, I have been called upon to provide childcare duties to the children of first responders–something that is most definitely needed at this time of crisis. It’s a job I was more than happy to do–until I arrived on site. We were promised a district nurse, who would screen all incoming adults and children for health issues before allowing them access to childcare. We were also promised stringent sanitization protocols that are, well, barely there. Our “nurse” is no nurse, but
Jewelry at the National Museum of Natural History – Washington D.C.
I didn’t take many pictures, because the gemstones were so bright they were actually blinding my camera. Check it out. Can you imagine the bling that was happening in real life? I feel like it was damaging to the eyes to look at these babies straight on! You really do have to see these gems in the flesh to realize just how brilliant they are! Obviously, we had to stop by and see the Hope Diamond. You know, the one that seems to be cursed and kills everyone. It is huge and ostentatious. There is some jewelry that I lust
