Scent for You – Black Forest Bar Soap

While in Boston, I spotted a soap maker outside Faneuil Hall. Being the constant lover of soap, I stopped by and bought a few bars. I thought there name, “Scent for You” was cute and I figured the swirly designs on the bar would look posh in my shower. Aesthetics, people. They MATTER. Anywhooo…. The scent of this was “Black Forest” but I’ll be honest… My sense of smell kind of stinks. So either this wasn’t very scented or my sniffer conked out when I used this in the shower. Maybe the whole “Scent for You” moniker was just a

Week in Review #19

How are you guys doing? Has quarantine caused you to go a little stir crazy? Have you binged watch so much Netflix that you can’t handle it anymore? Are you craving a weekend out because you wonder when the next time you’ll be able to eat at a restaurant without worrying about social distancing will be? Me too. But, I did other things this week too! I can’t forget about beauty during a crisis! It’s been the perfect opportunity to learn more about cyclomethicone! I wrote a letter to Portland, Oregon–My last outing before COVID19 shut down the world. One

Dos and Don’ts During a Pandemic

I think we can all agree that there has been no shortage of “crazy” happening lately. Don’t get me wrong, I understand that national emergencies have been declared in several countries and people want to be able to provide for their families–but there is absolutely no reason to buy twenty giant packages of toilet paper or thirty gallons of milk all at once. All of which I have seen with my very own eyes. Let the girl who had the stupidity to travel last week explain the Do’s and Don’ts of what to do during a pandemic (What? I knew

Pressure Cooker Lentils

This was unexpectedly well liked. Even my fiancé thought he’d give the Mr. Yuck face to this… but he didn’t. To be honest, I only made this because I have this rad pressure cooker from Breville and I try to find reasons to use it. Regardless of recipe, whether it sounds good or bad, if it requires a pressure cooker, I gleefully save it so I can whip out that bad boy and press “Power”. So when these pressure cooker lentils appeared on my browser, I thought, “YES!” My fiancé wished I would just make your everyday Mexican beans and

What I Wore to Tea

I had intentions of doing outfit of the day posts but it turns out I’m lazy. So lazy, that I actually wore this several weeks ago, before all the coronavirus hoopla began. You know, when tea houses were still open and I could still dress up to go OUT. Suffice to say, we will just call these “What I Wore” since “Outfit of the Day” will never be an on time post. I figured the kilt made this classy and snazzy enough to make me presentable for tea. Besides, the rest of my outfit was super boring and the kilt

Books: The Great Gatsby

This book is a tragedy. No, not because someone dies. It’s a tragedy because Gatsby lives a lie and loves a vapid gold digger. That, my friends, is how you waste a life. The story is told from Nick Carraway’s point of view–and what a view it is! F. Scott Fitzgerald’s power over description and the English language is a joy to read. Partially because he brings the roaring twenties to life and partially because he describes the characters just as they are. Whether they are brash, silly, insolent, or ignorant, he portrays them as just that and doesn’t faff

An Open Letter to Portland, Oregon

Dear Portland, We did not start off on the right foot. As a matter of fact, you were kind of a sloppy second. Our original plans included going to spring training in Phoenix, Arizona… But that was cancelled so we ended up with you. One thing you’ve gotten right Portland, is the love of books. Anywhere else, and a place like Powell’s bookstore would go out of business. Instead, it’s a monstrosity of a building that I could get lost in for hours. It was everything I’ve ever wanted a bookstore to be! And despite all the panic regarding coronavirus,

Cosmetic Ingredient: Cyclomethicone

Cyclomethicone is a common ingredient in the beauty industry. The products you can find it in run the gamut of deodorant and antiperspirants to sunscreens, hair care products, moisturizer, perfume and more. Let’s get into it! What is it? Cyclomethicone embodies both multiple and/or individual cyclic siloxane materials. It is derived from both silicon and oxygen. This ingredient is in the form of a clear liquid. It contains no alcohol and has no smell. Why is it in my beauty products? One of the benefits of cyclomethicone is its ability to provide a smooth texture that glides on skin in

Week in Review #18

This week has been anxiety ridden and stressful all because of the Coronavirus. Coronavirus, I hate you, I hate you, I hate you. People are dying, events are getting cancelled and there is a severe lack of toilet paper and hand sanitizer. Plus, the stock market is only plunging into an abyss. But whatevs, it’s the return of my week in reviews, so let’s check out what happened: I’ve been fan girling over Cargo’s Blush “Catalina” since it makes me look all healthy and natural. I talk about seeing the National Museum of Natural History and looking at giant gemstones!

Currently Listening to: 25 by Adele

This album is a breakup guide to all the teenagers out there. I say this because from the sound of it, Adele has been dumped. A LOT. As a side effect, she’s learned to craft some ridiculously classy songs in response to breakups. Really, you could do far worse than to emulate Adele when your heart has been trampled on. And there are so many different types of breakup on the album. There is the regretful, I’m-so-sorry song of “Hello” that everyone and their pet cat has heard on the radio. It’s hauntingly beautiful. Although it’s clearly about her inability
