I have a special place in my heart for yellow cake. I guess I have a special place for *all* cakes, but yellow is my favorite. It’s my preferred birthday cake.

Having come to these conclusions years ago, I was a bit miffed with myself when I realized the only yellow cake I’ve ever had was from a box (shout out to Duncan Hines!) and maybe it was time to make one from scratch. I surfed the net (as you do) and settled on the Basic Yellow Cake recipe from Foxy Folksy.

This is one dense cake! It was also moist and overall delicious, but then again, it’s CAKE. It has everything my tastebuds crave. This uses buttermilk in the ingredients, something that I didn’t expect to be in cakes. Is it a common ingredient? Remember, I make stuff from pre-made box mixes. Either way, I’m just wondering if this played a factor in how dense and delicious this was.

If you know me at all, you know that it was an absolute must for me to slap some frosting on this. There was no way in hell I had the ability to make cake and frosting so I did myself a favor and bought some chocolate icing at the store (shout out to Betty Crocker!). This was either incredibly smart since it increased the cake’s awesomeness rating by one hundred, or incredibly stupid, since this caused me to consume ALL THE CALORIES. But hey, I guess that’s why I joined barre class.
