I always love commercials about facial cleansers because more often than not, they teach you how to wash your face as if it’s BRAND NEW INFORMATION. They go through it step by step. First! Wet your face! Step Two, Use our super duper cleanser! Thirdly, massage in and rinse off! Towel dry and YAY, clear skin forever! Or so they’re hoping…

So I’m going to be so commercial with this post and tell you how I wash my face. Obviously, this will be the least important information of your life.

On to it then. First off, I don’t like to wet my face first. I’m such a rule breaker. I’d rather the product go on my face first without being watered down. I also rub in the product for a good ten to fifteen seconds before adding some water.

Then I massage the water and product together for another thirty to forty five seconds. I’m telling you I need to feel clean!

Then I rinse my face off.

Then I use a washcloth for a bit of exfoliation when drying off. Pat the eyes dry though, no need to age yourself prematurely by rubbing them.

And depending on if I wore makeup or not, I’ll do it all again. Double cleansing is a necessity to make sure all those cosmetics get scrubbed off!

Mindblowing stuff yes? And just like an acne busting cleanser commercial, I’ve thoroughly described some not so BRAND NEW INFORMATION!

P.S. Don’t you love a good Friends reference?

  • The Eclectic Contrarian

I’m old fashioned.. the old soap and washcloth thingy works like a charm for me. See! 😬

  • I use the face cleansing pads. I enjoyed your post it made me chuckle.

    • I’ve never been able to find a good set of cleansing pads. Then again I’m really fussy… and put too much makeup on. Lol 😆

  • I loved the article. what kind of face wash would you recommend for combination skin?

    • I have combo skin that leans more dry—so I use Paula’s Choice resist optimal results hydrating cleanser. Another good one you can find at the drugstore is CeraVe hydrating cleanser.

If you are more on the oily side of the combo equation I would choose a more oil like cleanser. Burt’s bees had one that was something along the lines of Argan facial cleanser? I can’t quite remember the name because it’s been awhile but really enjoyed that one for awhile!

      Hope that was helpful! 🙂

  • What products do you usually use?

    • I do like to experiment with new things… but the ones I’ve rebought time and again are the CeraVe hydrating SA cleanser and the Paula’s Choice resist optimal results hydrating cleanser.

I love take the day off balm from Clinique but if I’m feeling broke, I’ll use just plain fractionated coconut oil to remove makeup 🙂

      • Ooh so many nice brands! There are tons of good reviews on CeraVe & Paula’s Choice. I love the Clinique Take The Day Off Makeup Remover but I’ve never tried the balm.

        • I prefer the balm because it just seems to melt everything off so well!

I’ve been wanting to branch out to other brands but it’s hard to do when you know what works! Lol

  • I was browsing the comments to check if someone commented on the Friends reference so I wouldn’t have to ask… but I’ll admit it, I couldn’t figure it out. Me dumb. O.o what is it?

    • Never dumb!

Friends is a tv show. In one episode, a character named Phoebe, on hearing news that she already knew about cried out, “this is brand new information!”

Not everyone will know the reference 🙂
