I have a confession to make: I sort of love Disney.
Not in the “I have a Disney-themed bathroom and my entire personality is Mickey Mouse” sort of way. More in the “I have opinions about Disney merchandise, I collect ears, and I will absolutely wander into a Disney shop just to see what fresh nonsense they’ve come up with” sort of way.
And since I have apparently accumulated enough Disney ears to constitute a collection, I figured it was finally time to start showing them off.
So, welcome to the first installment of Kristen Has Too Many Disney Ears.
And naturally, we are beginning with Maleficent.
Because Maleficent is the baddest Disney villain.
This is not a debate. This is my masterful opinion, and frankly, I see no reason to entertain dissent.

Look, She’s a Fashion Icon
The Disney Maleficent reversible sequin ears are exactly the sort of ridiculous Disney merchandise that makes me happy.
They have the classic Minnie-ear silhouette, but instead of just slapping Maleficent’s face on them and calling it a day, you’ve got reversible sequins.
You know the ones.
You run your hand across them and suddenly the sequins flip over and reveal another color.
It is basically a tiny, wearable mood ring for your head.
Except instead of communicating your emotional state, it communicates:
I am a Disney adult and I have made peace with this.
The ears have that wonderfully dramatic Maleficent aesthetic, with the dark colors and unmistakable villain energy. They manage to be cute without making Maleficent look sanitized into some generic princess-adjacent character.
Which is important.
Because Maleficent does not need to be cute.
She needs to look like she is about to curse your entire bloodline.
And these ears understand the assignment.

Maleficent Is the Best Villain. I Will Not Be Taking Questions.
Let’s establish something before we go any further.
Maleficent is the baddest Disney villain.
Not because she’s the most evil. Not because she has the highest body count. Not because she is the only one to say “hell” in a Disney animated classic.
Although, honestly, “Mistress of All Evil” is a pretty impressive résumé.
It’s because she commits to the aesthetic.
The horns.
The cape.
The staff.
The cheekbones.
The giant dramatic entrance.
The ability to turn into a literal dragon.
This woman understood branding.
You don’t see Maleficent walking around in beige linen whispering about finding herself.
She arrives looking like the physical manifestation of a thunderstorm and immediately ruins everybody’s day.
Respect.
And while Sleeping Beauty is certainly not a movie where I would argue that Maleficent’s parenting style is exemplary, I appreciate a woman who knows what she wants and is willing to make an entire kingdom suffer because she wasn’t invited to a baby shower.
Petty?
Absolutely.
Iconic?
Also absolutely.

The Reversible Sequin Situation
Now, the actual selling point here is the sequins.
I love anything with a mildly unnecessary interactive component.
Could the ears simply be covered in ordinary fabric?
Sure.
Would that be as fun?
No.
Because now I get to sit there flipping sequins back and forth like a magpie who has discovered a credit card.
And that’s really the magic of Disney merchandise.
Some of it is useful.
Some of it is beautiful.
Some of it makes you wonder why you spent money on it.
And some of it makes you immediately understand why you spent money on it.
These ears fall firmly into category four.
They are wearable, they’re recognizable, they’re suitably dramatic, and they have that little tactile gimmick that makes them more fun than a regular pair of ears.
Do I need to constantly flip the sequins?
No.
Will I?
Obviously.

The Beginning of the Collection
This is the first time I’m showing one of my Disney ear collection, but it is definitely not the last.
Because apparently I have become one of those people.
You know the type.
You go to Disney.
You buy one pair of ears.
Then you see another pair.
Then you think, Well, these are different.
Then you acquire another pair.
Then suddenly you’re staring at your collection thinking, How did this happen?
I know exactly how it happened.
Disney made cute shit.
I bought it.
Case closed.
And honestly, if I’m going to have a collection of something, I could do a lot worse than colorful, ridiculous headbands featuring fictional characters.
At least these have storage potential.
Eventually.
Probably.

Final Verdict
Do I love the Maleficent reversible sequin ears?
Yes.
Do I need them?
Absolutely not.
Did that stop me?
Have we met?
They’re fun, dramatic, appropriately villainous, and, most importantly, they make me feel like I could dramatically curse a sleeping princess while simultaneously being extremely cute.
Which, really, is all I ask from Disney merchandise.
Maleficent remains the baddest villain in my masterful opinion.
And if you disagree, that’s fine.
You can simply be wrong over there.
I’ll be over here flipping my sequins.
