I’ve had quite a scornful relationship with scones. In my childhood, my family would always by them at the State Fair, cost a small fortune, and usually consisted of generic jam stuffed into big hunk of dry bread like substance. Everybody praised them as being awesome while I would mistakenly give them a try (again) and finding myself hacking up crumbs that got stuck in my throat. Yuck.
But then I got to thinking. I like tea. Scones are supposed to go great with tea. Maybe I was eating the wrong scones at the wrong time. Maaaaybe, if I added maple syrup instead of crappy Smuckers jam I would get somewhere. Annie’s Eats had exactly what I was looking for.
And you know what? THESE WERE SO MUCH BETTER! Not only were these nice and buttery (good bye choking hazard state fair scones!) but the maple glaze on top stole the show! The Mister ate one and said I should open a tea shop just to sell these (wtf, but I love the way he thinks!)
I stuffed two down my throat before the man hid them away. Apparently, we should save *some* for later. Hmph! (I mean that is how people break up amiright?!) HA!
I never really got what was so amazing about scones. Like you said, big hunk of dry bread. It’s been years since I gave them a try… maybe I should again. Does chocolate go well with scones?
Lol, maybe hot chocolate?
These scones were definitely a step above those dry hunks of bread that would eventually get coughed up!
I’ve never tried a scone. I think I’m missing out. 😀
Depends on the scone honestly. I’d wished I missed out on those overpriced fair scones! 😂
I am so fond of scones, particularly the ones at one of the cafeteria in my town. The maple oatmeal ones sounds delicious!
Girl, it is so delicious! Hands down, the favorite thing I’ve made this year!
