I never like to give a negative review. However, there are some things you just have to know about. I’m going to do this with a good old fashioned pros and cons list.

For some reason, I failed to photograph the crappy sliding door.

First con, a VERY big con. They use sliding doors for the bathroom entrance. The door was OFF its runner meaning that it left a very big gap. Privacy much?!

PRO: They immediately repaired the runner situation.

CON: There was still a huge gap around the door. Big enough that I could fit both my arms around the door while it was closed. I then proceeded to freak out my significant other by moving my arms around and telling him that I was the bathroom monster while he was trapped inside (no worries, he wasn’t actually using the bathroom, he preferred taking the elevator down several floors and using their public restroom since it felt more private).

CON: The bathroom also didn’t have a fan or a vent. Seriously.

No door to close off the shower. Ugh.

CON: At this point, we talked to staff about the sliding door asking who thought that was a good idea. “Oh, Kimpton is making this change to ALL their bathrooms! It’s so MODERN!” When I told her the modern look didn’t equate to privacy her only response was, “Well, yes, you have to be very close to the person you’re staying with to fully enjoy your stay!” Um, no. This is not a positive. Listening to my beloved’s bowel movements does not make for an enjoyable vacation.

CON: There was no door or curtain on the shower. Hello water all over my bathroom floor.

Free wine hour. I needed this after finding out my bathroom had zero privacy.

A BIG PRO: When we went downstairs, they had a free wine hour. I needed this. I had three big helpings of Chateau St. Michel reisling and was pretty damn happy.

PRO: The staff were very friendly, but to be fair I was drunk when I made this assessment. It was necessary.

PRO: They had paintings of important Seattlites portrayed in the style of a 17thcentury portrait. They included Bill Gates and Jimi Hendrix.

Bill Gates, Emperor of Microsoft.

CON: They also had Kelsey Grammar and Dave Matthews. Um, what? Where were Kurt Cobain and Dr. McDreamy?

PRO: Our hotel room had a pillow with Christopher Walken’s face on it. How cool is that?

CON: Our hotel room had a pillow with Christopher Walken’s face on it. How creepy is that?

He’s going to kill me in my sleep.

PRO: It’s an eco friendly hotel!

CON: This included leaving your key card in the light switch to turn on the lights. This drove my boyfriend and I crazy considering he had to turn out the lights on me every time he had to leave to use the bathroom.

PRO: They had delicious food!

When all is said and done, the sliding door to the bathroom killed this hotel for me. And if Kimpton plans on making all their hotels with sliding doors for their bathrooms, then count me as a guest who will not be returning.

  • I LOVE the Christopher Walken pillow. 😂 💜

The pros sound great, but the bathroom situation is the ultimate NO. I mean… no vent or fan, the rubbish door, water going everywhere when you shower… What the fudge?!

    • Yes, the nail in the coffin was the hotel manager explaining that you had to be “very close with the person you are staying with.”

THAT IS NOT A GOOD THING! You should feel like you’re on vacation no matter who you share your room with… and no one enjoys sharing rank bathroom moments!

Christopher Walken was a great touch though, I must admit 🙂

  • AH I think sliding doors are super modern & quite lovely but, I see why it could be a bother for those who like more privacy. I can’t believe your partner preferred the public bathroom! This hotel looks super cool. I love the old school paintings of Seattlites!!
