I can’t say that I’m an expert on boardwalks. It’s not like I’ve ever lived near one or made a goal to visit all the boardwalks in the world or anything… But there’s a feeling that’s stuck with me since visiting the boardwalk in Rehoboth Beach. That thing is that there must be a huuuuge difference between beach culture on the west coast and the east coast.

I think the most confusing thing for me was the epidemic of fries and pizza on the beach. Both of those things sound like the most unappetizing food to consume while the sun is beating down on you and the only way to cool off is to find air conditioning or jump in the ocean. Why would anyone want to put piping hot pizza and fries in their mouths at such a time? I’ve always considered beach food to be more ice cream and fish taco based but maybe I’m just hella basic at heart.

I appreciated the carnival games that we found. My inner twelve year old squealed with glee then cried a little when I lost the horse derby game. That game is the most crushing experience that I put myself through time and time again. I think I can win! But I never do…

What I really love about this boardwalk though is that it really does feel like it got stuck in the fifties, and didn’t get to grow up. It’s like getting caught in a time warp where everything looks wholesome, and a good time is determined by who can win a stuffed animal at the game stands instead of how many mai tais I can guzzle in one evening. Everyone was so friendly and wonderful too, the amount of people who offered to take mine and the man’s picture for us was quite overwhelming. It was definitely a case of help your neighbor out, because holy hell they are seriously failing at the selfie life.

It was a different experience for me, and I’m glad I got to be there.

  • Cute pictures! Sounds like a fun place!

  • I always try to! Thank you πŸ™‚

  • What a great time you guys had! It’s great that you got to unleash your inner 12 year old. And I know that, eventually, you will be a horse derby champion. Horse. Derby. Champion!

  • Lol that’s so weird how different people eat on the beach. In Cali, you’d find all the seafood & light fares… not fries & pizza. πŸ˜› How weird that people offered to take photos of you guys, too. Isn’t that usually something you need to ask? I do love how it looks all 50s though, beautiful photos!

    • I found the pizza and the fries to be so unappetizing! Why all the hot and heavy food?! It’s not beach food!

Yes, it was crazy how often people saw me and the man trying to take a selfie and just straight up offered out of nowhere! And they knew their stuff too! Trying to get the best angles and everything! πŸ˜‚

It was definitely a town stuck in time!
